The Southeast Sulawesi Regional People’s Struggle Command Post (DPD POSPERA) and the Southeast Sulawesi People’s Struggle Post Legal Aid Institute (LBH POSPERA) strongly condemned the stabbing of Muhammad Iksan (23), a student of the Faculty of Forestry at Halu Oleo University in Kendari by unknown persons.
Iksan was hacked by two perpetrators after holding a demonstration at the Southeast Sulawesi Provincial Parliament Office demonstrating the activities of two mining companies operating in North Konawe Regency.
It is strongly suspected that the perpetrators of the stabbing were people from the mining company who were protested by the victims and their colleagues.
“It is noteworthy that with the emergence of student protests against the activities of two mining companies operating in North Konawe, it shows that the control carried out by the Governor of Southeast Sulawesi through the Department of Energy and Mineral Resources towards several problematic nickel mining companies that was so intense several months ago, seems to it has not yet been effective and not genuine, “Pospera Southeast Sulawesi DPD Chairman Hartono said in his press statement, Thursday, January 2, 2020.
Regarding this incident, DPD Pospera Southeast Sulawesi and LBH Pospera Southeast Sulawesi asked the Southeast Sulawesi Regional Police Chief to thoroughly investigate the events that befall the victims professionally and transparently.
“Not only to the perpetrators of the stabbing, but including mining companies which are strongly suspected of carrying out activities that are contrary to the laws and regulations in North Konawe Regency as voiced by the victim and her colleagues,” he said.
He hoped that this event could become an entry point for law enforcers, including the Southeast Sulawesi Regional Government to examine and control the activities of all nickel mining companies in Southeast Sulawesi Province.
“In addition to that the South Sulawesi Regional Police provides maximum protection to victims and their families,” he added.
